Hypothyroidism and Infertility – The Link is Astonishing

There are millions of women that are trying to get pregnant and are unable to conceive. They assume it is just taking a while, and they continue to try to no avail. For many of them, they don’t even know that they have a condition called hypothyroidism, and a doctor can only diagnose it. It is often times overlooked as a cause because many women just don’t want to believe that they are suffering from the condition. However, tests can detect whether there is a deficiency or something else is wrong with a woman’s cycle and process of conception. In order to understand how the two are linked together, it’s important to first understand how hypothyroidism and infertility manifest themselves in the body. Before we go further, however, it’s important to understand that it is treatable and pregnancy is possible with proper care.

When hormone level secretions are low in the body, it is often times referred to as hypothyroidism, and this can really mess up the reproductive system. You see, in order for a woman to become pregnant the hormones in her body have to reach a certain level and she has to be in what is known as a “fertile” state. Without reaching optimum levels in the body, the process of getting pregnant is thwarted or missed out on completely. Fixing this is not something that can be done overnight, it requires a bit of therapy and healing.

There are some symptoms that can be seen in order to guide those that feel they have this problem. The symptoms include severe fatigue, muscle pain, depression, and very unpredictable cycles of menstruation. These aren’t always together, but can be early signs of problems. If any of these manifest themselves in physical ways, it is time to go see a doctor right away.

Hypothyroidism and infertility are linked together due to the hormonal dysfunction. Healthy thyroids secrete proper levels of hormones in order for a woman to conceive. There is a debate on whether or not certain treatments are better than others, but there is a great consensus overall, and that’s the fact that it is possible to recover from this issue. Just because you might have problems at first, doesn’t mean you will have life long problems. Only a doctor can measure how bad things really are, and can give you a proper diagnosis. No matter what, make sure to visit a physician at the first sign of problems.
